Tango-inspired vibrance tempered with European influence

The Vibe

Buenos Aires has a flourishing fashion scene that mixes the intricate designs and elegant silhouettes often found in Tango dresses with strong European influences — particularly from Italy, Spain and France. Typical Argentine style can lean casual and relaxed, but always stylish. Further, Porteños (a term of endearment referring to residents of Buenos Aires) are not afraid to raise the bar for a night out or for a special event. Go for smart, cool street style by day and something a bit more elegant for evenings out, particularly if you’re hitting up an upscale spot.

What To Pack

With mild winters and warm summers (remember - they’re the opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere!), you won’t need anything extremely heavy regardless of your time of travel. For winter months (June-August), expect temps in the 50s and 60s. Argentina is big on leather, so a moto jacket, leather pants, and leather shoes or boots are always great choices. Wide legged jeans, a knit top with a pop of color, and a comfortable and colorful sneaker for exploring. In warmer months (January-March can be especially hot), pair a pleated mini skirt with a jacket and sneakers for a chic day time look. A dressy belted short with a tank and leather jacket is another option. Something form fitting and/or shiny to go out in will elevate your entire travel wardrobe.
